The Story
The inaugural Presidents Cup in 1994 established a new tradition. Team USA, led by captain Hale Irwin, dominated the final day singles to secure the first trophy. The event was created to give non-European international players a platform to compete against the U.S. in a team format, with Gerald Ford serving as Honorary Chairman. The Americans built enough separation across the team sessions that the International Team could not fully recover. The 20-12 victory launched the event successfully, laying the foundation for what would become a premier biennial event in the golf calendar.
