Corey Conners Ties for Third in Bermuda and Moves to 54th in the FedExCup
The 2026 International Team captain’s pick finished the wind-shortened Butterfield Bermuda Championship at 14-under 199. He earned $318,000 and 145 FedExCup points and is 54th in the fall standings.
Corey Conners tied for third at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, finishing the wind-shortened event at Port Royal at 14-under 199. The Canadian, one of Geoff Ogilvy’s captain’s picks for the 2026 International Team, earned $318,000 and 145 FedExCup points. PGA TOUR’s points report places him 54th in the FedExCup Fall, inside the range Golf Canada identifies with the Aon Next 10.
Austin Smotherman won the tournament. He beat Seamus Power with a par on the third playoff hole after both had completed 54 holes at 16-under 197. That playoff decided the trophy. For readers following the International Team, Conners is the name that connects Port Royal to the side Geoff Ogilvy took to Medinah.
Scores, Points and a Week Cut Short by Wind
Strong winds kept Sunday’s final round from starting at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton. With Monday’s forecast also unfavorable, officials made 54 holes the completed tournament and used a playoff to separate the two leaders. Golf Canada and the PGA TOUR payout report both describe that sequence. CBC Sports’ Associated Press account records the same 14-under tie for third, the leaders at 16-under 197, and the Monday playoff.
| Finish | Player | Rounds | Total | Score | FedExCup points | Earnings |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Austin Smotherman | 65-66-66 | 197 | −16 | 500 | $1,080,000 |
| 2 | Seamus Power | 66-64-67 | 197 | −16 | 300 | $654,000 |
| T3 | Corey Conners | 63-67-69 | 199 | −14 | 145 | $318,000 |
| T3 | Taylor Moore | 65-68-66 | 199 | −14 | 145 | $318,000 |
| T3 | Ben Silverman | 63-67-69 | 199 | −14 | 145 | $318,000 |
Conners opened with a 63, then added 67 and 69. He shared third with Taylor Moore and fellow Canadian Ben Silverman, two shots behind the playoff pair. Each of those three collected 145 FedExCup points and $318,000 from the $6 million purse. Golf Canada and Rob Bolton’s payout table list the same figures for Conners.
Smotherman’s par on the third extra hole, the par-3 16th, gave him a second PGA TOUR title in consecutive starts. The first came at the Bank of Utah Championship earlier in October, after his March week at the Cognizant Classic. The points report moves him to 51st in the FedExCup. Power, second, collected 300 points and $654,000. Those are the championship facts. Neither total appoints a player to a future Presidents Cup team.
Silverman’s tie matched his best finish of the season. Golf Canada reports that it lifted him 26 places to 117th, a move in the race to keep full status inside the fall’s top 100. That is a card story. It is separate from the team-golf question attached to Conners.
What 54th Means in the Aon Next 10
Bolton’s post-event accounting says Conners was the only player who climbed into the Aon Next 10 bubble with this tie for third, and that he is now 54th overall. Golf Canada explains the band those places belong to: players who finish 51st through 60th in the final FedExCup Fall standings qualify for the 2027 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational through the Aon Next 10.
Those are next year’s signature events, not a Presidents Cup berth. The fall schedule is still open, so 54th is a current place in the standings rather than a locked invitation. A later result can move him out of 51–60, or leave him there when the fall ends. Bermuda strengthened the position Golf Canada described. It did not close it.
The shortened card needs the same caution. Conners posted three rounds because the event was reduced, not because a fourth round was discarded from his score. A 14-under total at Port Royal is a completed finish, with real points and money. It is not a four-round comparison with tournaments that played 72 holes.
The 2026 Captain’s Pick, Already on the Record
Ogilvy named Conners among the International captain’s picks announced on September 1. The 2026 roster guide lists that selection with the automatic qualifiers. The pre-event International outlook placed him in the pick group before the matches began.
Two sessions from Medinah are already in the match reports. On Friday, Conners and Nick Taylor beat Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns, 1 up, in the foursomes sweep. On Sunday, Justin Thomas beat Conners 5 and 3 in singles. The United States won the Cup 17–13. Bermuda does not change either of those results. Earlier appearances are on his player page.
Kingston Heath, Not a 2028 Roster Line
The next Presidents Cup is at Kingston Heath in Melbourne, with competition dates of December 7–10, 2028. Captain appointments and both teams are still ahead. The 2028 guide keeps that status explicit: each edition has its own selection process, and the 2026 rosters do not carry forward.
A FedExCup Fall tie for third can matter in that later discussion. It shows that an Ogilvy pick from Medinah was still contending in a PGA TOUR event that paid FedExCup points in late October, two shots from a playoff and inside the current 51–60 band. The same kind of fall result can inform a U.S. conversation when a future captain looks at recent winners. It does not select Conners, or Smotherman, for Kingston Heath, name a 2028 captain, or turn an Aon Next 10 rank into a team place. Those decisions have not been made.
Until they are, Bermuda is best read on its own terms. Conners shot 63, 67 and 69, tied for third at 199, and the points report puts him 54th in the fall standings. Smotherman left with the trophy. The International Team’s next roster is a separate question, and it is still open.
